Real Quick Rundown on how my posts will be changing from now on:
I plan to fade out on the heavy spirituality and self-reflection. Heres why,
I have nothing to prove.
I often struggle to write content for more serious topics ‘cause its not fun. I think way too much already.
There are already so many blogs on substack that serve a similar “I think I like this little life” kind of vibe (ifykyk). Media shouldn’t always have to make you feel cathartic.
I am wanting focus more on my new speculative fiction/fantasy series Carnage+-09, as well as other creative writing pieces and post them on Saturdays.
And so it begins…
T.H. died before she could start her blog :( Don’t be sad, She is immortalized in this cute little electronic repository. Admit it, you’re dying to hack her computer. It’s the only way you’ll get to read all of her half-baked short stories and snoop through all of her favorite media. Hint: for some reason she set the password to your email address… strange.
Wednesdays is when I waddle up to you with the mystery brown sauce smeared all over my mouth, offering you the soggy, half eaten banana that is my weekly media diet. I compile everything that makes me feel something, even in the slightest, here in this weekly report.
If you’re not a fan of Gen Z culture, or memes, this section might not be for you (aka mom, you can close out of the tab now).
I spend a lot of time on instagram… maybe more than I’d like. I’m not entirely ashamed of that because thats what makes me a certified Gen Z’er. I percieve the world through my mental archive of multiple second video memes, text posts, and nonsensicle bits. Here are a few of the things that I really enjoyed from this past week.
Reels
Like I said, mainly I’ve been using instagram as my main social media. Tik Tok is one huge ad for Temu it seems… Other than HorrorTok (I’ll get into this in another post), It just doesnt feel like home in the same way instagram does. Don’t get me wrong, the interface and functionality of instagram as a social media app has changed drastically since I first started using it in… 2012? 2013? Since the pandemic, there’s been a huge shift in the way people are able to make a living. Instagram has evolved to support the millions of small to large scale businesses ans influencers that occupy what feels like a gigantic digital flea market. Its beautiful to see everyone so enthusiastic and headstrong about their passions, but its also a little annoying. Sometimes I don’t want to be sold to, sometimes I just want to watch a dumb video of someone screaming at the hibachi grill, ya know?
p.s I realize adding the links to these reels could be dangerous because I know how the apps suck you in, and you might forget to come back and read the rest… Think of it as an attention span excersise. Trust me, you’ll be proud of yourself when you finish reading this all the way through. After all, this is very, very important.
Screaming for his life?
If you have instagram… lmao please watch this (I don’t use tik tok, not sorry). I have no fucking clue why this SENT me over the edge crying and losing my shit at 2am. Maybe because the text makes the ending so unsuspecting, or maybe because its so fcking loud. Good ass meme.
AI voiceovers are gettting out of hand.
“How do I BRUUEEEATHHEEE, yeh”. Theres no cure for cancer but u damn skippy I’m finna hear Patrick Star singing Mario’s How do I Breathe, in perfect pitch. If you like this you’ll also enjoy Toad singing Gasolina. If you hate AI (I’m not the biggest fan either), check out this Toad - Billie Jean cover parodied by an actual human.
Trailer Trash Tammy makes me feel like a warm can of beans.
When I get to heaven, I hope to find Tammy there as God, her golden locks slicked back, her shining ruby face beaming down upon me. There’s another video I could have linked but I decided to start with this one because its the most vulgar. There’s something special about white people leaning into the raw unabashedly trashy American schtick that makes me feel warm inside. I could literally do a whole post dedicated to this kind of humor and why I love it so much. If you watch the video please read the comments and you’ll understand why that first comment is so funny.
Text Posts
This section doesn’t need much preamble, hence the headline. These are the type of posts that make me feel like I’m hovering an inch above my body, just enough to feel that great big love light shining through each of my cells. Brittany Broski actually mentioned this in one of her earlier episodes on The Broski Report (if you havent seen it please go watch EVERY SINGLE EPISODE), the ability to pair music to text posts or videos brings such an ethereal, four dimensional atmosphere to my consumption experience. Its what young me always dreamed of having.
Music
If you were a fan of Scrumple Street Biweekly, this part is an homage to DJ Shiny Tops section. AKA, these are my tunes of the week.
Emahoy Tsege-Mariam Gebru — Tenkou! Why Feel Sorry?
Her newest album, Souvenirs is a beautiful amalgamation of slow pulse piano and distant vocals. Some of my favorite songs are the ones I can’t really understand the words to. I feel like sometimes we become so immersed in the narrative of a song that we forget about all of the other elements that combine to create the essense of a piece in its entirety.
Vegyn & John Glacier — A Dream Goes On Forever
My first taste of Glitch Hop was from when Vegyn hosted blonded radio (frank oceans radio thingy). From there I dove head first into his discography and blissed out. From the sounds of it, this next album may send me into outer space. I hope so.
Dido — Thank You
Not new. I rediscovered this when the cotton eyed joe x stan remix popped up in my reccommends, and then it was all downhill from there. When you listen to it you’ll get it.
